KLASS KLOOSTERBOER
PARTY - OPPONENT

Klaas Kloosterboer has been known the past years for raking and throwing paint onto the canvas. He often hangs objects or large clown-like suits from ceilings and walls. Man as an abstract presence and an action as something that has taken place are always at the forefront of his work. This is also the case again in his exhibition 'Party-Opponent'.

What will be happening later, what can happen, what has happened? That is what you might ask yourself when you see a table with a piece of cloth neatly arranged on it. On the walls hang an assortment of curtains with colourful stripes and patterns. On the wall furthest away a stage is suggested by means of a repoussoir.
On entering the second space it turns out that a selection has been made from the enormous amount of fabrics seen before. The viewer is confronted with a dramatically long black curtain. Opposite this are hanging black, spray-painted canvasses. Hanging in the space is a linen fitting room with sleeves sewn onto it. A monitor on the floor displays a video showing a neatly dressed man walking on numbered cans and repeatedly saying that all colours are fine.

The theme of the exhibition - 'Party-Opponent' - is clearly about making choices. Choices that we make every day, but also the choices that we make amongst ourselves as regards the people around us.
