JAN ALBERS
The HokusaiDawnRaiderS
27 October – 15 December 2012

The HokusaiDawnRaiderS. Katsushika Hokusai presumably 1760-1849, one of the foremost Japanese woodcut artists, writer of popular novels, creator of The Great Wave off Kanagawa, and Grand Master of the gradient. The DawnRaiderS. a determined group of unconditional enthusiasts who follow their master in the fight against the figures of the dark. See From Dusk Till Dawn by Robert Rodriguez, Dawn of the Dead by George A. Romero from 1978 and Twilight.
The DawnRaiderS. sung about hymnic in Morning has broken by Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens.
Or The HokusaiDawnRaiderS. a loose club of dilettante alchimists who made twilight the subject of their research, that fleeting moment just before sunrise and sunset when the light casts long shadows, things appear strangely clear and graphic and saturation and contrast are fully turned up. That mystical moment that the HokusiadAwnRaiderS. are trying to distill.
Or The HokusaiDawnRaiderS. Football regional league club, who took their name in reference to the Oakland Raiders, three-time Super Bowl winner. But who, despite a few lucky hits in the last session, never outgrew their amateur status.
