ASUNCION MOLINOS GORDO
Hunger, a man-made object
10 June - 31 July 2014

Travesia Cuatro is pleased to host Asunción Molinos Gordo’s first solo show in Madrid.

“Hunger, a man-made object” reflects on the financial aspect of food trade, dealing with its possible impact on food insecurity. During her staying at Delfina Foundation as part of the residency program “The Politics of Food” Molinos studied David Harvey’s concept Accumulation by dispossession which elaborates on how the centralization of wealth and power in the hands of a few is caused by dispossessing the public of their wealth or land.

This exhibition will display a series of economic objects, carefully crafted, through which to understand some of the reasons why almost 1000 million people are deprived from regular access to food.

Asunción Molinos Gordo (Aranda de Duero, España, 1979) employs photography, video, installation and other media to explore the rural sphere and issues of peasantry from a trans-national approach. Graduated in Fine Arts from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, her projects have been shown in Europe and Middle East at venues including Darat Al Funun (Amman), The Townhouse Gallery (Cairo), Arnolfini (Bristol), Delfina Foundation (London), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), CAB (Burgos), Matadero (Madrid) among others. She currently lives and works between Egypt, Oman and Spain.
