PEDRO CABRITA REIS
Lifted gaze
6 April - 22 June 2014
Curator: Lorenzo Benedetti
Especially for De Vleeshal, the Portuguese artist Pedro Cabrita Reis (Lisbon, 1956) has created a major installation that engages in a dialogue with the historical architecture of the building.
His work establishes a relationship between space, architecture and memory. With the title “lifted gaze”, the artist wants to express how his work can be viewed.
In his work, Reis often uses construction materials such as brick and iron. In De Vleeshal he has created an installation with which he aims to strike a balance between a monumental dimension and a fragile, poetic dimension of the material and space.
On the occasion of the exhibition, the book Pedro Cabrita Reis, “lifted gaze” will be published. It is a joint publication of De Vleeshal and Mer.Paper Kunsthalle.
