KOLKOZ
Jan 15 - Jan 23, 2010
"As part of their exhibition at the Wentrup gallery, Kolkoz turns the power of imagery on its head: for example, by layering the frame of an image over and over until the subject itself disappears; by reversing the colour of the clothes of people whose portraits they find on the internet or by inversing the word “Welcome”, to question the authority of visual language. Kolkoz (Samuel Boutruche and Benjamin Moreau), like the two sides of Janus, the mythological doorkeeper, tackle each piece as a threshold through which symmetrical and reversible worlds are in dialogue, while also revealing hallucinatory aspects of the art."
