WHITE SPACE BEIJING cordially invites you to the Inaugural exhibition of 2011. Yu Bogong’s art practice is based on his strong desire to understand and perceive the world and our surroundings, and he has been trying to convey his perception through various artistic objects, figures and patterns he’s created. What underlies and hides behind his works is a set of rules he has developed and conceived. According to his conception, this set of rules could be a coordinate system for measuring the world, and by using these rules one could view and think about all kinds of things, their interrelation, individual conditions and shared contexts, and formulate a value system. The basis of this set of rules is originated from the mandala of Esoteric Buddhism tradition in Ancient India and China’s Five Element theory, both of which describe and deliver the structural relationship of cosmic inventory and the sequential relationship of its mode of motion from a general perspective. Yu Bogong identified and combined the similarities and differences of these two value systems, and tried to summarize and establish a new value system. “At this Present Moment ” shares with us the very joy of such discoveries and reflections.
