BERTRAND LAVIER
12 September – 12 October 2013

Yvon Lambert is pleased to announce the fifth solo show dedicated to Bertrand Lavier, from the 12th September to the 12th October 2013. For this exhibition, Bertrand Lavier has realized a series of new works based on the theme of Walt Disney Productions, thus offering new direction to a series he initiated in 1947.

Indeed, 1947 is actually the date of the first apparition of an imaginary Museum of Modern Art created by Disney Studio in a Mickey Mouse Comic Strip. Only during the first half of the eighties decade the artist extracted the works of this context and faithfully transposed them on canvas, paper, picture or three dimensions.

For his exhibition at Yvon Lambert Gallery, Bertrand Lavier offers a renewed initiative of this series, for the first time contextualizing it within the history and story of his own practice.

Bertrand Lavier (b. 1949, Châtillon-sur-Seine) lives and works between Paris and Aignay-le-Duc (Burgundy). After horticultural engineering studies, Bertrand Lavier begun to create in a self-taught way, when did he start challenging the very foundation of modern art (whether it be the duchampian ready made or the way of painting “à la Van Gogh”...) with a unique and humourous language. Since 1969, the artist has built up a body of work which invites visitors to let go of their certainties. Playing with categories, codes, genres and materials, Lavier’s art shows an inclination for addition, cross-fertilisation, hybridisation and transposition for which he has become one of the most acclaimed artist in France.
Bertrand Lavier has been featured in numerous international solo exhibitions, the most recent of which was the major retrospective in the Centre Pompidou in 2012.
