"FRESH PAINT"
New York, NY, May 8, 2007 — Yvon Lambert New York is pleased to announce its first exhibition of paintings by Puerto Rico based artist, Melvin Martinez. The show is titled Fresh Paint. The exhibition will be on view from May 31 through June 30, 2007, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. A reception for the artist will be held at the gallery on Thursday, May 31 from 6 to 8 pm.
The eight large and colorful paintings in Fresh Paint are made with both oil and acrylic paint adorned with glitter, confetti, and other decorative ornaments. “The Enchanted Garden”, the largest of the canvases is is the centerpiece of the show. Measuring 7.5 x 27 feet (228.6 x 822.96 cm), it astonishes the spectator with a combination of scale, rich textures, and vibrant colors.
Using materials more common in creating decorative crafts, Martinez captures the distinctive celebratory elements of the Caribbean region where he lives; evoking a sense of joy, festivity and pleasure in those who view the paintings.
Melvin Martinez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1976 and studied art at San Juan Arts School, Puerto Rico, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2005. He was the winner of the “2005 Castellon Paint Prize” and has shown at many museums in Spain. Martinez is part of many important collections in the United States, Europe and Latin America. He has participated in exhibitions at the Espai D’Art Contemporani, Duesseldorf Quadrinale, and Alcorcon’s Art Center.
