Anna Reinert: "Sunday, Monday"

10 Nov - 15 Dec 2007

Anna Reinert: Dawn, 2007, Acrylic on Canvas, 50 x 110 cm
The works by Danzig painter Anna Reinert often radiate an unreal coolness. Whether deserted streets in post-Socialist cities or the virtual transfigurations of idyllic parklands - none of these utopian settings seem to redeem what they promise. And yet each individual picture possesses an understated serenity and almost impenetrable calm. "Above the treetops you feel almost no breath of wind, the birds are silent in the forest": Speechlessness and lethargy as weapons to combat the vigorous chaos of the present, globalisation hysteria and the shrieking of shopping malls.

"Sunday, Monday," yesterday and the day after tomorrow are distilled meticulously in Anna Reinert's works, without the mawkish icing of utopian ideals.
