IMAGE-----MOUVEMENT
9 December, 2010 - 13 February, 2011

The Centre d’Art Contemporain is proud to announce the launch of IMAGE-----MOUVEMENT, a new platform of thought and experimentation, created at the heart of the Centre d’Art Contemporain’s programme, in order to research the characteristics of this terrain and its impact on contemporary culture.

In its first act, IMAGE-MOUVEMENT explores the expanded nature of the moving image, through the presentation of film, video, installation and performance. It features two major sections: an international exhibition starting December 9th, 2010 (until February 13th, 2011) and an intensive 4–day- forum of events from December 9th to 12th 2010.

The exhibition presents artists whose works challenge the notion of the image as a crystallization of truth. By adopting images deriving from real, fictive, documentary and biographic material, they speculate and destabilise, structure and reconfigure the moving image. Their practices are neither history nor non-history but emerge in a parallel space, born out of the critical debate surrounding cinema verité, televisual culture, the documentary, the archive, post colonial theory and the video essay.

The forum includes 3 days of filmed, performative-discussions with international artists and artists’ collectives, open to the public and to specialists alike; three screening cycles; two mediation projects; a convivial salon with nightly music events; and a public art project testing the frontiers of film-making in the streets of Geneva.

This first act of the manifestation will lead to the accomplishment of other projects, already programmed for the upcoming spring; including a range of publications relating the highlights of IMAGE-MOUVEMENT 2010.
