AMUSE GUELE - ARTIFICIAL AMSTERDAM
18 June — 6 October 2013

Preceding and concurrent with the exhibitions, de Appel arts centre is presenting material from its own archive in the Chambre Séparée of MOES.

In connection with the exhibition Artificial Amsterdam video documentation will be shown of two projects in de Appel arts centre in which foreign artists and curators investigated Amsterdam, its clichés and myths.

In de video Somos Libres!? (1981) by Michel Cardena two young homosexual men from Latin America decide to come to the Netherlands in hope of finding the freedom they so deeply desire. They are rapidly confronted with the realities. In the exhibition Amsterdam Revisited: A'dam & Eve: On sex, tolerance and other dependencies ( 2002 ) three young curators from Ireland, Germany and Italy respond to the reputed sexual freedom in the Netherlands.
