GEORGE EKSTS
Incredible Utility
5 December 2012 - 10 February 2013

In 'Incredible Utility', George Eksts presents a selection of visual conundrums from his ongoing series of 'endless' videos.

A branch balances and spins on its own axis, a team of scaffolders are locked in an absurd cycle of perpetual play, and two signs rattle against each other in confrontation, poised to fall at any moment.

While some of the events documented are staged or choreographed, others are actual scenarios from real life that have been manipulated, edited, collaged and looped in post-production.

Eksts' time is not linear but crumpled and meandering, collapsed in on itself. Sequential events appear simultaneous, videos slip in and out of sync with each other, and narrative progress is subverted.

In confounding our desire to impose a beginning and an end, Eksts invites us to engage in a process of attentive looking that brings out delicate nuances we might otherwise miss.
