The exhibition Evil Eye presents a contemporary look at the notion that a gaze has the power to do damage. The featured artists are Jiri Geller, Humberto Junca, Tuomas Laitinen, Liisa Lounila and Kim Simonsson. In the imagery of their works they make use of the gloomy side of popular culture, such as manga, action films and Goth fashion. The evil eye is often associated with envy and a gaze that leads to disaster and dangerous situations. People tend to feel insecure and embarrassed under the gaze of strangers. Is it possible to be damaged by the evil eye if one does not believe in it? Can a work of art function as an amulet to ward off the evil eye?
