WHEN THE HEAVENS FALL.... REMAKE
Maija Blåfield and Anu Suhonen
12th Oct, 2007 - 6th Jan, 2008
The joint production 'When the Heavens Fall... remake' by artist Maija Blåfield (b. 1973) and photographic artist Anu Suhonen (b. 1970) is a reinterpretation of Risto Jarva's film 'When the Heavens Fall...' from 1972. Jarva's satiric melodrama criticised the yellow press of its time and explored issues of power in the media and between the sexes. Power structures, as well as the possibility of multiple interpretations of reality forms the central theme and structural backbone of Blåfield and Suhonen's work. Fictitious scenes commingle with documentary elements that record the making of the work. Projected simultaneously on two screens, the format of the piece multiplies the number of alternative and overlapping interpretations. In their earlier work Blåfield and Suhonen have also addressed the issues of ethics and the power of artists. 'When the Heavens Fall... remake' sounds the depths of ethics to the very bottom on personal, professional, as well as social levels.
