ARTE ESSENZIALE

04 Nov 2011 - 01 Jan 2012

The exhibition "Arte Essenziale" presents works by eight artists from Italy, Great Britain, Georgia, and the US, some of whom live and work in Germany. All artists are producing new works specifically for this exhibition. "Arte Essenziale" will first be shown at the Italian Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia and subsequently at the Frankfurter Kunstverein.

The conceptual framework of the exhibition is based on the thought of the Italian philosopher Federico Ferrari and his idea of "arte essenziale", i.e. the "essential in art", which also serves as the title of the exhibition. Now that we have reached the end of postmodernity, this idea is an expression of the need for a gesture of new beginning in contemporary art. "Arte Essenziale" may be considered a counter notion to the often common attempts to standardize and systematize current art trends with the prefixes neo-, post-, trans-, or alter-.

Participating Artists: Karla Black (UK), Gianni Caravaggio (IT), Alice Cattaneo (IT), Thea Djordjadze (GE), Jason Dodge (US), Francesco Gennari (IT), Ian Kiaer (UK), Helen Mirra (US).
