For the exhibition And This is Us 2023, 11 young artists have taken over the Frankfurter Kunstverein. In the weeks before the exhibition opening, they will work in the premises of the Frankfurter Kunstverein and set up their temporary studios there. New large-format works will be created in the process.
This is the fourth time since 2017 that this overview show of current art production from Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region takes place. It is part of a lively cultural landscape in which numerous internationally renowned academies and universities train the new generations of artists.
And This is Us has developed into a visible stage for young talents, from which many artists have already been able to launch their careers and make their way into the art scene.
This edition shows eleven aspiring artists who are studying or have just graduated from the Hochschule für Bildende Künste - Städelschule in Frankfurt and the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach. With works produced especially for the Frankfurter Kunstverein, they paint a polyphonic picture of young people's questions about the complexity of the search for identity, our society, and the future.
Contemporary art allows us to deal with these existential themes, which also arise from changing social structures. It raises awareness of social transformation processes that are often not yet addressed by the political system.
Young artists have always been seismographs of their time. It is always about their gaze and how they read reality and transform it pictorially, how they open up new perspectives and thus create new insights and shift discourses.
