The exhibition Path of Diversity was created and designed by pupils from several different secondary schools. Previously, the participating teens had done investigative work on migrations and sociocultural diversity. This show presents part of their findings in the hope that they will raise public awareness about these themes.
The Path of Diversity exhibition is one of several activities involved in the "Feel It! Feel the Difference" project, which aims to enhance the public perception of migration and sociocultural diversity and highlight the valuable contributions that immigrants make to their receiving societies. Thus, the project's ultimate goal is to promote the integration and recognition of immigrants in the six participating European countries (Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Lithuania and the UK).
To achieve its objectives, "Feel It! Feel the Difference" organises activities designed to encourage a mutual understanding and appreciation of the sociocultural diversity that exists in our societies. One of these activities is the Path of Diversity exhibition. Other project results include new learning materials specifically aimed at developing skills for intercultural dialogue and values of harmonious coexistence.
Thanks to workshops organised with pupils at secondary schools, where they discussed topics such as the prejudices, stereotypes and negative feelings often associated with migrants in receiving societies, the teen participants were able to interview people in their immediate vicinity that had had some sort of migration experience: recent or not, international or within the same country. These migrant life stories were the seeds that later blossomed into the Path of Diversity exhibition, with an original concept and design by the pupils who participated in the project.
The exhibition itinerary runs parallel to that which many migrants travel, identifying their reasons for deciding to migrate, the journeys that led to their final destination, their first contacts with the receiving society and the adaptation process. This particular itinerary shows how migrations are a human phenomenon with which we can all easily identify, proving that migrants are not a homogeneous group and underscoring the fact that migration processes enrich our societies. Additionally, the Path of Diversity associates each of these ideas with one of the five senses, presenting a genuine opportunity to "feel the diversity".
