The exhibition Sálvese quien podamos [“Every Man for Ourselves”] features a selection of 45 cartoons by Asier & Javier concerning the “beloved crisis” that have appeared in various publications.
If you can’t beat the crisis then join it and laugh out loud at it: that is what the cartoonists have set out to do. In their own words we laugh at the crisis, twist it around & look at it from different angles in an attempt to understand what is happening.
Caricature, satire, irony and surrealism are often far more effective than books of highbrow essays on socio-economics. And the only laugh in books like that comes when they tell you the price.
We like just hanging out, and that’s what we want to see our work doing: hanging on the walls of the Sala Rekalde, of one of Bilbao’s best exhibition venues.
