IPURBELTZ (1977-2008)
III. KOMIKI LEHIAKETA REKALDE - ORTZADAR
8 November - 8 December 2013

Exhibition of the winner comics from the third edition of REKALDE-ORTZADAR KOMIKI LEHIAKETA and the original documents and cartoons as a homage to the comic Ipurbeltz (1977-2008).

Ipurbeltz was launched by the Erein publishing house in 1977. It was published for three decades, a period when it successfully met its initial objectives: to provide Basque-speaking children and teenagers with a first-rate product entirely in Basque.

For 30 years, Ipurbeltz was also an important training ground and platform, which produced a long list of Basque illustrators, including artists of the ilk of Asun Balzola, Tomás Hernández-Mendizabal, Antton Olariaga, Jon Zabaleta, Migel Berzosa, Jesús Lucas, José Gastón, Antton Dueso or José Angel Lopetegi. Artists working in different styles, but they were always striving for a common goal: to create attractive stories with familiar characters. The result was unforgettable characters and series, including Mari Txano Gorritxu eta otsoa, Braulio, Txomin eta Telmo, Elitxu, Punki eta Mintxo, Ramuntxo Ganbelutxo, Doktore Salbatore, Poxo, Prontxio y Martzelino, without forgetting the historical characters that those illustrators brought to life in the comic, such as Iparragirre and Ignacio de Loiola.

Ipurbeltz published its last issues in 2008, leaving behind 362 fascinating issues.
