LOURDES DE LA VILLA
Sueño del observador
15 April - 18 May 2014

Sala Rekalde presents an exhibition by Lourdes de la Villa, included in the barriek 2014 programme which puts on show the works of artists who have been awarded Becas de Creación Artística from the Regional Council of Bizkaia.

The artist lives and works in Bilbao, where she also studied Fine Arts and gained her PhD at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU. With the title Sueño del observador (Observer’s dream) she exhibits at Sala Rekalde a set of works that go back to her stay in 2010 in the Austrian city of Bregenz, thanks to an artist exchange programme that BilbaoArte engaged in.

Through these photographs taken in Bregenz, Lourdes de la Villa has created a mental atmosphere as psychological material of her own experience which helps her to seek out a concrete visual form. The result does not intend to be autobiographical but attempts to respond to the process whereby memory is constituted.

The artist tries to represent what the observer sees by means of the digital manipulation of an image to move from sketches (photomontages) to an image that can be stamped, “serigraphed”; although at all times she maintains a support, material and steps characteristic of the pictorial medium. From the preparation of the cloth to the manufacture of her own paint, adapted for use on the serigraph screen.
