New Paintings
September 9 - November 25, 2006

Opening Reception: Friday, September 8, 7 - 9 p.m.

Miriam Wosk’s paintings, drawings, and collages are characterized by precise and layered textures reminiscent of Medieval tapestries, modern quilts, and Art Deco works on paper. Her new series of monumental, intricately ornamental paintings are inspired by nature. These thickly encrusted, three-dimensional works are inhabited by extraterrestrial flowers, poetic vegetative forms, cosmological atmosphere, crystalline bursts, starfish, fractals, bones, skulls, and a variety of other found materials. Mixed media, multi-layered surfaces are seductively meditative. The pouring, painting, airbrushing, gluing, and embedding is intensive. Iridescent apparitions glow from within and erupt from the picture plane into an over-the-top union of spirit and matter.
