RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMMER
Biometric Abstraction
A collection of works that explore the signs of life
May - October 2014

This exhibition organised by BORUSAN CONTEMPORARY (Istanbul) and curated by Kathleen Forde, unveils a very personal, emotional and evocative dimension of the work of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.

All the installations in this exhibition are conceptually rooted in the body’s vital functions: heartbeat, breathing, and the cornerstone of human communication: voice. The selection of work in this sample includes recent and new productions. Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (Mexico D.F., 1967) is an electronic artist who creates interactive installations that come mid-way between architecture and performing art. His main focus is on creating platforms to encourage audience involvement by tampering with technological tools such as robotics, computer surveillance and telematic networks.

There are nine pieces in the exhibition that visitors can “contribute to” with their interactions: Surface Tension, Pulse Room, The Year’s Midnight, Bifurcation, Close Up, Reporters without Borders, Voice Array, Pulse Index, Pulse Tank and Vicious Circular Breathing.
