LIVING LONDON
Living London is a newly commissioned multiple-screen film installation by artist and film-maker Gerry Fox. It is the result of the first annual artistic residency at 176, during which Fox collaborated with the curatorial team at the gallery and members of the local community. Inspired by London, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the gallery as they move through a series of audio-visual environments, immersing them different scenes of the city, and experienced from the point of view of the film-maker himself. The installation makes tangible the power of film to evoke the spatial and temporal sensations experienced in dreams.
Living London will be shown alongside a selection of works from the Zabludowicz Collection, exploring contemporary urban life. The exhibition is also accompanied by a series of weekly events including talks, artist-curated film screenings and artist-led walks exploring the local area.
As part of Living London Fox has collaborated with a group of young people from Haverstock School and the Camden Detached Youth Project to produce a final set of films for the exhibition entitled Camden Walks. For the past four months, the participants have been learning how to use a Super-16mm film camera and have directed, shot and edited films about their experiences in the area.
