Sophie Mackfall’s painting practice is rooted in the medium’s transformative, mediated physicality. For Intermedia, Sophie will present new work influenced by a month long residency at Cove Park undertaken in May 2011.
Alongside paintings, Mackfall has developed works that operate spatially for the first time, using light as an immaterial component. The textural and material qualities of chalk, paint, and wax crayon are used to form a response to a visual stimulus, or are used to transform or bring together disparate visual cues.
Mackfall graduated in 2008 from the Glasgow School of Art. In May 2011 she completed two years as a committee member for Transmission Gallery, Glasgow. Most recently, Mackfall exhibited at The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh and AMP, Athens.
