BARRIE COOKE
"Monotypes"

07 May - 05 June 2010

Kerlin Gallery are pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Barrie Cooke, 7 May – 5 June.

Now approaching his 80th year Barrie Cooke, certainly one of the most adventurous painters of his generation, has decided to turn his hand to the monotype. Painting directly onto smooth flat surfaces Cooke is able to transfer all his trademark painterly techniques onto paper. The result is a large body of very fine mono-prints dynamic and ebullient in nature and executed with a masterful economy. All of Cooke’s favourite themes get the treatment; the land, the sea, the rocks and of course the female nude.

Barrie Cooke has exhibited widely throughout Europe, the US and Canada. Important solo exhibitions include shows in the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin in 1986, the Haags Gemeentemuseum, The Hague in 1992, and LAC, Perpignan, France in 1995. His work is represented in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Ulster Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Haags Gemeentemuseum and in many other public and private collections worldwide. In 2003 a major retrospective exhibition took place at the Royal Hibernian Academy Gallery, Dublin.
