"We are not Alone"
For her first solo show at THE BREEDER gallery, Vasso Gavaisse presents geometric works from paper. In the exhibition entitled We are not Alone the perfect shapes repeated in various sizes are developed from the idea of the Perfect Solids and lead to a succession of different instants. The particularity of her technique is based on the adherence of a metallic, colored film that reflects light and the surrounding space and enhances the impression of movement. The manner with which she cuts and bents her material creates a solid surface that gives a static effect to the works. This process permits her to define and control the final form, reducing the element of chance to the reflection of the light.
Vasso Gavaisse engages directly with the tensions and moments of rotation of the composition to create object-like. She designs her images based on grids where she places the polygonic shapes that come out of polyedrus shapes in various sizes and appear in geometric progress, creating a multi-leveled web. The negative areas are juxtaposed with the positive and in the whole they reveal structures that exist in nature, developing a mysticistic system that draws its subject from the geometric analysis of the natural world and the apocryphal shapes of Platonic Ideas.
