Within the frame of ReMap KM 2 Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center presents the group show Crystal Structure. The show is scheduled to open on Tuesday June 16th from 11.00 to 21.30 p.m.

The crystal structure of a material or the arrangement of atoms in a crystal structure can be described in terms of its unit cell. The unit cell is a tiny box containing one or more motifs, a spatial arrangement of atoms. The unit cells stacked in three-dimensional space describe the bulk arrangement of atoms of the crystal. The crystal structure has a three dimensional shape. The unit cell is given by its lattice parameters, the length of the cell edges and the angles between them, while the positions of the atoms inside the unit cell are described by the set of atomic positions (9:14χ4) measured from a lattice point (9:14χ411).

Beginning from the minimum curatorial equation that in this case results from the simple equation 9 : 14 Χ 4 = 9 rooms : 14 artists Χ 4 floors when measured from the lattice point 11= 11 Leonidou str., Crystal Structure attempts to understate the spatial conditions under 14 contemporary artists coexist in a neutral space. The way a space is divided and organized in order to host 14 independent works is similar to the crystal structure of a material. The building located in 11 Leonidou str., which this year hosts Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center, is a cell unit, a tiny box that contains 14 motifs. The bulk arrangement of the atoms of a crystal structure is compared to the bulk arrangement of the 14 artists. The way the works interact in an unconstrained but in the same time organized arrangement adds the necessary balance and the blaze of a crystal.
